Field Mechanic

This position is located 30 miles southwest of Farmington, New Mexico on the Navajo Indian Reservation. The mine produces approximately 5 million tons of coal per year and is the sole supplier of coal to the Four Corners Power Plant. Job Title: Field Heavy Duty Mechanic Location: Navajo Mine Department: Field Maintenance SUMMARY: The Field Heavy Duty Mechanic will diagnose malfunctions and repair, replace and inspect parts on all types of large surface mining equipment. This includes technical and troubleshooting abilities on the 9400 Liebherr Excavator, the Wirtgen 4200SN, Atlas Copco 271 class Pit Viper drills, Marion 8750/8050 draglines, and Caterpillar and Cummins engines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Perform safety inspections of work areas and equipment prior to commencing work, report and correct (as appropriate) hazardous conditions and report all near misses and accidents to the supervisor. Act responsibly in all duties, follow all safety instructions and established policies and procedures. Lift, carry, move and utilize a variety of tools, equipment, parts and supplies such as batteries, hydraulic lifts, and toolboxes. Operate various types of vehicles including, but not limited to, pickups and field service trucks, forklifts, hydraulic cranes, heavy equipment, lube and fuel trucks, and basket trucks as qualified. Job duties must be performed in accordance with MSHA laws and regulations, established company safety procedures and State and Federal environmental regulations. Must be able to climb, work at heights and in confined spaces. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High School Diploma/GED and a two-year technical degree, or completion of an apprenticeship program in a related field, or ten years of experience maintaining diesel powered off-road equipment. Previous maintenance experience with the Wirtgen 4200SN, Atlas Copco 271 class Pit Viper drills, Marion 8750/8050 draglines, and Caterpillar and Cummins engines will be a plus. Possess a valid State Drivers License and maintain an insurable driving record. Successfully pass the mechanical aptit
