UNDERWRITING MANAGER

Underwriting Manager Richmond, VA, USA Req #311 We're looking for amazing people! Come join Virginia Housing as a Loan Program Underwriting Manager . This important role will manage activities of Virginia Housing's Homeownership Loan Underwriting department to ensure compliance with all aspects of applicable agency, insurer, and regulatory guidelines and provide quality customer service. This role will also be responsible for internal and external training and support related to underwriting requirements. Responsibilities will include: Managing workflow of underwriting department and oversight of underwriting activities Champion and applying a variety of underwriting standards and criteria to accommodate the many programs available, including FHA, VA, RD, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, down payment and closing cost assistance programs, while also ensuring compliance with and accuracy of all tax-exempt mortgage revenue bond provisions of the Internal Revenue Code and federally required documents pertaining to homeownership loans Providing support and guidance to an underwriting team that analyzes credit documentation to determine an applicant's creditworthiness and ability to meet financial obligation, property documentation to confirm there is adequate collateral for the proposed mortgage, and documentation to determine an applicant's eligibility for Virginia Housing's programs Performing second loan reviews, escalated loan reviews, and respond to QC audit findings Providing excellent customer service to business partners responding to inquiries regarding Virginia Housing policies, guidelines, loan programs, and loan status Conducting underwriting training to Virginia Housing approved lenders and internal staff Assisting with reviewing lender file quality and provide support to remediate common mistakes Qualified candidates must possess : Bachelor's degree or equivalent, relevant work experience Senior-level underwriting experience working in a management or leadership position Experience underwriting FHA/VA/RD/Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac loans and Virginia Housing loans Possess experience in responding to loan escalations, performing second-tier reviews and training underwriters Possess FHA Direct Endorsement Authority (CHUMs ID)
