Yakima Health District Community Health Specialist Salary: $25.75 - $33.60 Hourly + Benefits (10 Salary Step Range) The Yakima Heath District offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, vision, dental, and life insurance; participation in Washington State retirement system (DRS); and a generous annual, holiday, and sick leave program. This employee generally starts at the first step of the salary range and moves to step two of the range upon the successful completion of a six (6) month probation period and is eligible for a step increase each year thereafter through step ten (10). Purpose of the Position: A Community Health Specialist provides and manages health education programs that help individuals and families, throughout Yakima County, maximize and maintain healthy lifestyles. Essential Job Functions : This professional is responsible for performing the tasks as follows: • Collect and analyze data to identify community needs prior to planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies, and environments; • Develop and present health and promotional programs, workshops, informational sessions to medical providers, schools, community members, and fellow health professionals; • Make decisions, solve problems, analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solutions to frequent health concerns; • Develop, prioritize, implement and monitor program or project goals and objectives; • Collect statistical data, maintain records, prepare reports; • Interpret the meaning of information for others by explaining what the information means and how it may be used to address health concerns; • Evaluate information and data to ensure deliverables are in compliance with regulations, grant requirements, and mandated laws; • Update technical knowledge and apply new information to the job; • Present complex regulations and guidelines in writing and verbally in a clear and concise manner to a diverse population, some with limited English skills; • Develop a network of organization and community partners interested in sponsoring educational and informational campaigns specific to improved heath.
