Position Summary: The University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications for an Academic Advisor and Coach . This full-time, 12 month, benefit eligible appointment serves students as part of Academic Support Programs and has an anticipated start date of March 1, 2021 (or earlier). The successful candidate will provide academic advising and academic coaching, along with proactive transition assistance for freshmen and transfer students, and will be skilled at developing rapport and building productive relationships with students and campus colleagues while serving as a liaison to the resources available. Responsibilities: Academic Advising: Guide students in making informed decisions regarding educational and career goals. Meet with students to create an academic plan and select other experiences in service of their goals. Monitor academic progress of students and develop intervention strategies to assist students in their academic development; make referrals as warranted. Provide workshops to the campus community (including in-class presentations) on the academic advising process. Academic Coaching: Work with students (including those "at-risk") one-on-one to help them develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. Motivate students to identify and overcome obstacles that may be impeding academic success. Instruct students on how to focus on individual goals and identify steps in reaching those goals. Work with students to develop strong time-management and organization. Transfer Transition Programming: Provide one-to-one academic success coaching with transfer students during their transitional year to UW-Platteville. Collaborate with transfer advisors across campus to research and implement best practices for working with transfer students. What You'll Need to Succeed: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in counseling, communication, education, psychology, student services or a related field from an accredited institution. One to two years of demonstrated professional experience in one or more of the following areas: advising, academic coaching, working with transfer students, admissions, or a student services education setting.
